Non-Verbal Communication Observation By Watching TV Sitcom

How accurate are you at interpreting non-verbal communication? Without watching, a videotape, a television show with which you are familiar. A sitcom would work well. View the show with the sound off and analyze it using the observation chart given below. Then watch the show with the sound on and check your observations again.

Summarize your observations with reference to the checklist given below.

Name of the TV Show Videotaped: _________________________

With the sound off, identify and describe four different interactions between people.

Provide a possible explanation as to what is being said, or what is happening.

Explain what forms of non-verbal communication you have based your explanation on.

Watch the tape with the sound on, and check your original explanation for accuracy. Consider why there may be a difference

Suggest why your original explanation and what is actually communicated with the sound on, are different.

The question belongs to Sociology and it discusses about verbal and non-verbal communication. The exercise is about watching a TV show, preferably a sitcom and understanding the situation through non-verbal communication, by turning the sound off and watching it again with the sound on and matching the observations.

Hello Allison,I love the 2nd image that you did! I also, had never heard of SumoPaint, is something that I will have to exolpre a bit! I understand completely the 52 (or so) youtube videos that you probably watched. Sometimes they have what you want, sometimes they don't! However, it is always satisfying when you are able to produce something that you have taught yourself. Great job!Debra 0 likes
