Levenspiel plot of liquid phase reaction in adiabatic conditions

Question

The liquid phase reaction R → P is described by the Levenspiel plot shown below for adiabatic conditions and an inlet temperature of 140°F. The reaction will be carried out using 2 CSTRs in series. Feed to the first reactor is pure R at 140°F with a flow rate of 45L/min and 15mol/min. Overall conversion is 40% at the exit of the 1st reactor and 75% after exiting the 2nd reactor. What is the approximate volume of the 2nd reactor?

a)    3L
b)    6L
c)    26L
d)    42L
e)    90L
f)    126L

Summary

The question belongs to Chemical Engineering and the question is about Levenspiel plot of liquid phase reaction in adiabatic conditions. The resultant volume from the 1st and 2nd reactors has to be calculated. The solution has detailed calculations.

Note: The solution is in handwritten format.

Hello Allison,I love the 2nd image that you did! I also, had never heard of SumoPaint, is something that I will have to exolpre a bit! I understand completely the 52 (or so) youtube videos that you probably watched. Sometimes they have what you want, sometimes they don't! However, it is always satisfying when you are able to produce something that you have taught yourself. Great job!Debra 0 likes
