Hydrogen Bromine Reaction in the Presence of Light


The reaction between H2 and Br2 to form HBr in the presence of light is consistent with the following mechanism:

Br2  →  2Br*
Br* + H2  →  HBr + H*
H* + Br2 →  HBr + Br*
2 Br* →  Br2

Derive a rate law for the overall reaction using the pseudo steady state hypothesis.
