Ms. Q, a professional property investor, purchased a unit in Wan Chai in 2012 and converted it into a café shop because she saw great potential in this industry. Since she knew nothing about this business, she invited Mr. A, an owner of a café chain, as a partner to run the café operation. Ms. Q had to give Mr. A a monthly fee in return for his supply of well-qualified Barista. During this period, Ms. Q learnt the ins and outs of coffee making as well as the whole business operation.
At the beginning of 2014, Mr. A withdrew from the partnership as he was busy in running his own café chain and he also saw no future of the business in Wan Chai.
Instead of closing the business, Ms. Q worked as a one-man band to continue the operation. She recruited some full time and part-time baristas among the customers; however they resigned within a short period for various like lack of training, prospect, found another job with higher salary and so on.
In the 4th Quarter of 2015, she even rented a unit in Cause way Bay and determined to build it into flagship café shop under Top Café Company. She plans to recruit 2 part-time baristas to serve at Wan Chai shop so as to release her to look after the flagship café in Causeway Bay when it opens in Mid-2016.
She did try to source candidates via her friends, relatives and even vocational schools and train them to become barista, but receive nil reply from them. Finally, she was able to hire 2 guards from her residential estate as part-time baristas to commerce duty in mid-March 2016.
