# Generate Sample for Discrete Random Variables given Poisson Distribution Using MATLAB

**Question**

Generate 1000 samples for each of the following discrete random variables:

(a) Poisson distribution with 3 and 10

For the above distribution, plot probability mass function for each set parameters on one figure (you should have two curves on each figure and have three figures overall). In addition, you should also plot the corresponding analytical results (probability mass function curve based on distribution formulas) on the same figure. In this way, you can verify whether your simulated random variables match with analytical results.

That means on each figure, there are four curves (two simulations, two analytical). Use “legend” to denote each curve, and use different line style and color for each curve.

You should show the X-axis with *reasonable* range such that the curves can be clearly seen.

In addition, calculate the mean value and variance of generated samples for distribution (sample mean and sample variance).

**Summary**

This question belongs to MATLAB software and discusses about application of MATLAB in mathematics to generate samples for discrete random variables using Poisson distribution and to calculate the mean value and variance of generated samples.

JaneteHello Allison,I love the 2nd image that you did! I also, had never heard of SumoPaint, is something that I will have to exolpre a bit! I understand completely the 52 (or so) youtube videos that you probably watched. Sometimes they have what you want, sometimes they don't! However, it is always satisfying when you are able to produce something that you have taught yourself. Great job!Debra 0 likes
