Calculation of Heat Entering and Exiting from Two Mixture of Gases


500 kg/hour of a mixture containing 10wt% methane and 90wt% ethane at 27°C and 1 bar is fed to a mixer. Another mixture, containing 50wt% methane and 50wt% ethane at 77°C at 1 bar, is also fed to the mixer at a flow rate of 300 kg/hr. The mixer operates at 1 bar and 227°C. Calculate the heat entering/leaving the mixer in kJ/hr. Use the sign of Q and determine if the heat is being transferred FROM or TO the mixer. The specific enthalpies of methane and ethane are given in the table below.
