Calculate Fuel Oil Burning In Excess Air

A fuel oil (15% H2 and 85% C, by weight) is burnt with 50% excess air [basis 100 kg fuel oil]

(a) Calculate the volume of air used.

(b) Calculate the volume percent of N2 on a dry basis of the resulting flue gas.

(c) How many kg of air per kg of oil will be needed?

(d) Calculate the vapour liquid equilibrium composition of a mixture of benzene and toluene at 84.1°C and 760 mmHg. The saturated vapour pressures of benzene and toluene at 84.1°C are 880 and 330 mmHg respectively.

Relative Atomic Masses:

H - 1, C - 12, N - 14, O – 16

The question belongs to Chemical Engineering and it discusses about calculating the volume of air, the volume percent of N2 and the amount of air per kg of oil needed for burning a 15% H2 and 85% C fuel.

Hello Allison,I love the 2nd image that you did! I also, had never heard of SumoPaint, is something that I will have to exolpre a bit! I understand completely the 52 (or so) youtube videos that you probably watched. Sometimes they have what you want, sometimes they don't! However, it is always satisfying when you are able to produce something that you have taught yourself. Great job!Debra 0 likes
