# Calculate Bivariate Correlation And Regression For Data Given In Sav File

Question

In the data set, there are 35 variables and 2248 participants. The file is about Norwegian veterans, who have participated in international military operations (intops). The data contains information about PTS symptoms, how they perceived their time in active duty and to which degree they use avoidant coping mechanisms in facing tough situations. The sample is large, and your assignment is to assess and discover explanatory variables for PTS. A lot of the variables in the data measures things that are not ....., PTS for instance. Parametric statistics and analysis can still be used.

Description of the data set;

 Variable name Description Value description gradsko Military rank - alder Age (in categorys) Se data file for info kjønn Gender 0=male; 1=female; 2 = unknown tjeneste Function/type of service Se data file for info varighet Number of moths in service 1 = < 6 Months; 2 = 6-12 months; 3 = > 12 months reak1 – reak10 Scale that measures PTS 1 = Never; 7 = often intops_1 – intops_10 Scale that measures perceptions of international military service 1 = Rare; 5 = Very often mest1 - mest10 Scale that measures avoidant coping mechanisms. 1 =   Not at all                           4 = All the time

1. Give a descriptive description of the sample
2. Investigate the factor structure of the variables intops_1 to intops_10, by using a principal component analysis. How many components are in this sample. Explain how you proceed, and give the components meaningful names.
3. Combine, using the results from assignment 2, the variables intops1-intops10 to one or more sum and mean-scores. Construct new mean and sum scores for reak1-reak10 and mest1-mest10. Please show how you did this.
4. Calculate and rapport reliability in all the new variables you made in assignment 3. Would you say this is satisfactory for this study?
5. In the data, there is a variable called ‘tjeneste’, which tells us what kind of function or service that the participants had. Transform this variable into a dictome (two part) variable, that separates the ones with ‘operative tjeneste’ (operative service) from the rest.
Are there differences in the two kinds of service and PTS (reak1-10)? Are there differences in the two variables with any of the new components you made in assignment 2?
6. The variable ‘Varighet’ splits the data in three different groups, depending on the amount of time the participants spent in operative service, in the last three years. Are there any differences in PTS symptoms (Reak1-10) in the groups of ‘varighet’? Describe your result
7. Check the bivariate correlations (coherence?) between reak1-10, mest1-10 and the variables you created in assignment 2, both by screen plot and correlations. Describe the pattern of coherence –both in regards to direction and strength.
8. Specify a regression model that gives validation to say something about how much of the variations in the PTS (mest1-10) that mest1-10 can explain, that goes beyond what ‘tjeneste’ and ‘varighet’ can explain. Use the variable you created in assignment 5. Describe the results from the model you chose.
9. Give a brief summary (200 - 300 words) of the main findings.

Summary

The question belongs to Statistics and it discusses about calculations of bivariate correlations, regression and others with the data given in the sav file.

Hello Allison,I love the 2nd image that you did! I also, had never heard of SumoPaint, is something that I will have to exolpre a bit! I understand completely the 52 (or so) youtube videos that you probably watched. Sometimes they have what you want, sometimes they don't! However, it is always satisfying when you are able to produce something that you have taught yourself. Great job!Debra 0 likes
